Healthy book:Lose Weight WITHOUT Dieting (Animal Kingdom Workouts) [Kindle Edition]

Customer Review :
I agree that there are many things in here that are common sense, such as eat when you are hungry, and only at the table and other obvious lessons. However, because it was entertaining I kept with it and I am glad that I did. My friend and I have been doing the workouts and MAN DO WE FEEL THE BURN!! And from a very safe isometric workout.. We kinda laughed at the idea thinking it could not compete with weightlifting and running but after one week I am here to day to say I was wrong.. My friend was more shocked than I, as he has been fit his entire life and never has 10 reps of 8 different moves left him so spent! Give it a read if you want some good opinions and ideas to start getting fitter at home without fancy equipment and to start changing your ideas about how we eat in regards to survival versus how we have trained ourselves to eat more than we need to survive. It is amazing how ones own body weight is really all you need to tone and define your body. It has been 4 weeks now and we both feel stronger our stamina has increased and we can do 20 reps of each now hoping to increase to 30 someday, but for now, satisfied with what we have done so far.

Healthy book: Natural Sleep Made Simple: How To Get A Good Night's Sleep Without Drugs "

Customer Review :
Just like you, I've had my own issues with getting enough good quality sleep. Most of those issues came from not being able to fall asleep quickly after going to bed. Of course this caused all sorts of problems...
Alarm clocks, bosses and appointments could care less about how much sleep you got the night before -- everything must keep running on schedule no matter what. Well, everything just snowballs when you can't fall asleep on command each night.
You still have to get up in the morning -- even if you're dead tired and really need a couple more hours of rest. And to make matters worse, the cycle keeps repeating itself night after night until you're nothing but a walking zombie struggling to make it through the day.
Finally I reached the point where enough was enough -- I had to put myself first and find a way to get enough sleep each and every night. I couldn't stand the thought oflooking old before my time and was afraid my health would suffer if I didn't start sleeping better.
I did some research and was surprised at what I found... there are so many simple changes you can make to help you fall asleep quickly, sleep better throughout the night and keep you feeling great... best of all, sleeping pills are not necessary and can evenmake the problem worse!
Because this information has the ability to help so many people, I decided to share what I found with others so they can overcome their sleeping problems too...

Healthy book : Sleep well and tight

Customer Review :

Recent researches have found striking connections between disorders like heart problems, high blood pressure, weight gain, sleep deprived persons, etc. Therefore, to avoid such drastic circumstances one must get an adequate amount of sleep.
In this busy world where everyone is in a rush, and no one seems to have enough time, sleep is underrated, and most times, people usually don’t get enough of it, which leads to problems in the sleep patterns and metabolism. In order to stay fit and lead a better life one must feel fit and the best natural way to achieve this is to get some good quality sleep!
You don’t remember now, but there was a time when you slept like a baby, when you woke up each and every morning fully refreshed, with tons of energy to use throughout the day. And this without coffee, energy drinks, chocolate, vitamins and other pills.

Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet Book: How a Doctor and His Cookie Helped 500,000 People Lose Weight Fast

Customer Review :

There are three big reasons why Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet Book stands out from the diet book pack. For one, Dr. Siegal has been in the business of helping people to lose weight for 34 years, and he has an enormous success rate. His lifetime dedication to undoing obesity and his high credibility factor is enough to earn my respect and attention. Then there's the fact that the cookie diet is easy to understand and follow. You eat five or six 90-calorie cookies at regular intervals throughout the day plus one protein and veggie meal. It's as simple as that. Everyone can figure it out, and there's none of that dastardly food planning that most people hate. And lastly, the cookies are an effective tool for hunger prevention, which Dr. Siegal claims is the biggest weight loss problem to conquer. I actually sampled some of the cookies, and while it's not the same as eating a 5-inch chocolate chunk cookie from your favorite bakery, the cookies are fresh, they have a decent-enough taste, and they really do fill you up.

Dr. Siegal also gives readers refreshingly new information about weight loss. For example, he advocates taking off weight faster rather than slower. In fact, in his opinion, speed of weight loss is a critical success factor because when people don't get results right away, they're more likely to get demotivated and quit. Another useful tidbit is Dr. Siegal's insistance that weight loss and weight maintenance should be recognized as two different tasks and two different skills. It's the same idea as fixing a car when it's broken and then taking ongoing care of your car so it doesn't break again.

The chapters dedicated to weight loss history were not interesting to me, and I found myself skimming through them. Even though Dr. Siegal is a weight loss history buff, his passion didn't translate into the pages of the book. That said, Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet Book gives the reader a proven process and a companion set of products that make weight loss fast and easy. This could be a way to eat a half-dozen cookies a day and get skinny while you're at it.

Healthy Product: Dr. Siegal's COOKIE DIET® Chocolate Diet Cookies (One Week Supply)

Customer Review :

When I decided to try this diet, it was sort of a "what the heck, might as well give it a try" decision. I wasn't sure if the diet was effective or would work for me, but some aspects really appealed to me.

I'll give you the conclusion to my review up-front so you can decide if you want to read the rest of my review. I've lost 10# in 28 days. I still have about 40# to go and I will continue on the cookie diet, but felt I was at the point where I could declare the diet successful for me and post a review to help others considering it. I had read everything I could find on the diet before deciding to try it and a review like this would have been very helpful in making my decision to try it, so I hope that it will help others.

For reference, I started this diet at 200# with most of the excess weight around my middle and I'm 5'5", female and 41 years old. I have not dieted at all for 3 years since going off the Atkins diet in 2006 after doing that successfully for 3 years. Since then I gained about 50# and was in need of addressing my weight gain. I've dieted many times on many different diets over the years as I've struggled with weight my entire life.

Most important to me about this diet was not being hungry, accomplished by eating the cookies. That has really been a huge issue for me in past diets, as Dr. Siegal correctly identified in his book. Also, the simple layout of the diet with the 6 cookies and a meal really helped as I knew that I wasn't supposed to eat anything but his cookies until dinner. And I wouldn't need to buy weird, pricey frankenfoods (other than the cookies) like I did on Atkins (low-carb breads, chocolates, etc) since I'd be eating regular foods for dinners.

As for the cookies, don't think of them as actual cookies. They're just meal replacements in the form of a round food. They're smaller than I expected, about 2" diameter and about 3/4" tall. My first reaction upon opening the bag and seeing their size was skepticism that I could go all day eating only these 6 cookies and not be hungry. They are definitely better heated in the microwave (15 seconds). Heated, I think they are closest to really small muffins in texture and taste - slightly spongy and slightly sweet. I think they taste fine. Not so good that you want to eat them just for the pleasure of it (a big problem for me), but not bad at all and no negative comments like I read in some reviews. I think it has a lot to do with your expectations; if you're expecting typical cookies, you will be disappointed. My favorite flavor of cookie is chocolate compared to the oatmeal raisin or blueberry.

The cookies do a good job of eliminating hunger, which I was surprised at given how small they are. The first day was the hardest, but after that was fine. I do eat all 6 cookies each weekday and I do not go hungry. On the weekends when I get up later I sometimes only eat 3 cookies a day. I do not have fatigue in the afternoon as some have suggested would be the consequence of this diet. On weekdays, I usually eat my last cookie about 3:30pm and then take my dog out hiking for an hour and do not feel fatigued. I eat dinner about 5:30, which is likely earlier than many can, so that may help me a little as the time between when I wake and when I eat dinner (when I am only eating cookies) is about 11 hours.

I haven't done the meal part of the diet as they advise as I felt that their guidance was too restrictive for me and decreased the chances I would stay on the diet. Also, I was a little concerned about the 1,000 calorie limit. I've read that if your calorie deficit per day is greater than 1,000 that your body starts to go into starvation mode, which is totally counterproductive to losing weight, and eating 1,000 calories per day is right about that point for me based on various calculators I've used. Dr. Siegal does address starvation mode conceptually in his book, but he does not discuss the 1,000 calorie deficit to trigger it, so I don't know where he stands on that point.

So I was shooting more for the 1,200 calorie area, which is presented as an alternative. But I never counted calories for my dinners while on this diet as I knew that would drive me crazy. And I didn't limit myself to lean meat and veggies for dinner as I knew that would also negatively affect my ability to stay on the diet. My thinking was: if I lose a little less per month, but can actually stick with the diet, then that's ok with me.

So I just had a normal dinner for me - the foods I liked and in normal quantities. Though I did find pretty quickly that I felt full at dinner with less food than before the diet, so it seems my stomach has shrunk from my cookie-eating daytimes. I also sometimes had a glass of white wine with my dinners and usually had half a piece of fruit for dessert (orange, banana, apple, some pineapple). Also affecting my decision to not do more restrictive dinners is that I am married, and my husband and I eat dinner together, so doing it this way eliminated any impact on him as he wasn't forced to eat diet dinners or live off of frozen meals. Some nights I did eat frozen dinners as suggested in the book if my husband was not home or not hungry. I also continued having lunch out on Saturdays as my one daily meal.

So it was a combination approach and I'm sure my calorie intake varied from day to day. But as long as I lost weight and wasn't hungry, this worked much better for me as it will help me stick with the diet. I write this detail because I was almost discouraged from trying the diet when I learned the specifics of the dinner guidelines. So I wanted to share my experience that it is possible to deviate from the stricter dinner guidelines and still lose weight, though possibly not as fast. As I've lost 10# in 28 days, I'm still right on the average of 10# per month, even with my deviations. I'd seen several reviews that indicated things like "don't cheat at all", which I think is misleading in that you may not have to stick to every aspect 100% as they suggest.

Another thing that appealed to me about this diet is that if you have a day when you stray and eat more calories, you won't lose weight (or as much) or could possibly gain weight, but as soon as you go back on the diet you are losing weight again immediately since it all depends on calories. (This is my interpretation of the diet and what I've found to be true thus far.) One of the big drawbacks with the Atkins diet in my experience was that if you had a day where you went off the diet and ate carbs, it would take about a week of being back on the diet before you started losing weight again.

One of the criticisms of the cookie diet that Dr. Siegal references in his book is that it doesn't change eating behavior, so presumably after one is done with the diet he/she will go back to their overeating ways and gain it all back. I haven't gone off the diet yet, so I can't say yet whether I will gain it back, but the diet really quickly brought to my attention my eating behaviors and how they contributed to my being overweight. I very quickly learned that I felt an impulse to go get something to eat for all sorts of reasons besides being hungry: being stressed out, being bored, and just wanting something tasty. I work from home and my kitchen is only several steps away from the desk where I spend my workday, so in the past getting something to nibble on was very easy. This was one of the hardest things to deal with on this diet. It was not that I was hungry when I took a moment to evaluate these impulses, but that I had a serious pattern of wandering to the kitchen for something to eat for one of the three reasons above. Learning this was not a complete surprise, but the extent to which I did it really surprised me. So this awareness will be something I will carry with me after I go off the diet and I hope will lead to a permanent change in my eating behavior in that either I've overcome these impulses during the diet since I couldn't fulfill them or that I'm at least aware of the issue and can stop and evaluate if I'm actually hungry or motivated by one of the three reasons above rather than being on auto-pilot.

I also wanted to mention the cost of the cookies. When I initially saw the price of the cookies, I was almost discouraged from trying the diet. But I eventually decided I could gamble the cost of 28 days of cookies to try to address my weight problems. As it turns out, I think I may end up saving money on this diet. Even though the cookies aren't cheap, the cost of all the food I was buying to eat aside from dinner apparently really adds up. My grocery costs decreased since I started this diet as now I only buy dinner foods and food for my husband. So assuming you use the cookies you buy, they may pay for themselves, give or take, in grocery cost savings.

I also wanted to mention that I have always had a huge sweet-tooth, which has always been a big challenge while dieting. The cookie diet has really reduced my cravings for sweets. Aside from fruit after dinner, the only sweets I've had have been a small piece of chocolate sometimes after dinner, but still have lost the 10# in 28 days.

In case it might be relevant, I supplement with Vitamin D and Turmeric in addition to the multi-vitamin included in the boxes of cookies. I don't know to what extent they may be relevant to the success I've had with the diet, but wanted to mention them as they might be. Also, I did call Dr. Siegal's website folks before starting on this diet and confirmed that neither the cookies nor the multivitamins had any stimulants or appetite suppressants.

While I posted my review on Amazon, I didn't buy from the seller that sells through Amazon and instead bought directly from the Cookie Diet website.

Healthy product: Hollywood Cookie Diet Chocolate Chip - 12 Meal Replacement Cookies

Customer Review :
this product is great. I have a sweet tooth and used to eat alot of sweets which included cakes, and chocolate bars. After starting this diet I have not had the need to eat any of those unhealthy and fattening foods. The cookie diet has tricked my mind into thinking I am eating junk food when in actuality I am feeding my body protein, fiber and vitamins. I have lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks. I love it. I do not see myself stopping this diet. If I had anything bad to say it would be that the cookies are a bit expensive for me. But other than that I am happy happy happy. If you drink 8 glasses of water with this diet and a healthy meal you will not be hungry. But if you just eat the cookie with no water it may not fill you up. So the trick is to drink alot, alot, alot of water. Our body needs water and it helps keep you regular. One more thing, eating the four cookies also helps you get used to eating smaller portions. I think it shrinks your stomach or something because now I can not stuff myself as much as I used to. Good luck.

Healthy Product: Herbal Hollywood Diet 32z ( Multi-Pack)

Customer Review :
I was attracted at first to the promise of losing 10 lbs in two days, but I also know that it is not possible to lose that much fat in that short of a time period. The juice tasted good and surprisingly I did not feel hungry on the first day! I also drank plenty of water with it. I just craved my favorite foods!! By the end of the first day I had lost 6 lbs, and I felt great! I was proud for sticking to the diet. But I also know that the weight I lost was water weight, not fat. Nevertheless, my clothes fit better because I retain fluid easily and my belly always feels bloated. This product eliminated that. I use this now if I will be going out or want to look and feel a little slimmer. BEWARE: I would not recommend doing this more than one day, because it is only 400 calories. The next morning I felt dizzy and sick to my stomach because my body needed calories to function. If you buy this, just remember that you are not losing several lbs of fat, but mostly water! For me it was great motivation to continue my Weight Watchers diet because I saw a lower number on the scale! The mind is a funny thing. :) I hope someone finds this helpful!

Emotionally Healthy Spirituality: Unleash A Revolution In Your Life in Christ

Customer Review :

Peter Scazzero's first book, "The Emotionally Healthy Church" has had a great impact on churches and church leaders all over North America and beyond, so much so that it is now available in 5 languages. Next year another language will come out and by sometime in 2008 it will be available in 7 languages according the publisher. It is interesting to note that book was written for a church leaders. This new book, "Emotionally Healthy Spirituality: Unleash the Power of Authentic Life in Christ", goes beyond just leadership, to everyone who has a seeking heart.

I am member of Pastor Pete's church. His preaching and teaching has and continues to transform how we see ourselves in Christ, how we relate to each other, both in the world and in the Body of Christ, and in how to walk out a freedom in emotional and spiritual health that has restored our joy in the Lord! Our church funtions in a greater degree of love and understanding of who God made each of us to be as individuals and as a body. We are still journeying on that path, growing daily.

Yet, upon reading this book I told Pastor Pete that his writing is even better than his preaching on this book and that's saying something! Even after sitting under teaching for 3 years now on this new book "Emotionally Healthy Spirituality: Unleash the Power of Authentic Life in Christ", I found myself drawing nearer and deeper into who Jesus is as I read, and how much the love of the Father is impacting my life like never before. The grace and the power of the Holy Spirit reaches through every word. Although written in easy reading form, there is much to chew on in this book, much to digest. Pick it up for your summer reading under a shade tree on your vacation. Read it slowly and contemplate the Lord's presence as you do so. You won't be sorry, you'll be changed.

Healthy For Life: DEVELOPING HEALTHY LIFESTYLES THAT HAVE A SIDE EFFECT OF PERMANENT FAT LOSS

Customer Review :

I read a borrowed copy of Releasing Fat: Developing Healthy lifestyles that Have the Side-Effect of Permanent Weight Loss. It wasn't until after I ordered a copy for myself AND and copy of Healthy for Life... that I read the blurbs about them on Dr. Strand's website. You can't tell on the Amazon site that the books are virtually identical. The only difference is that Releasing Fat includes Usana products (meal replacements, snack bars, and vitamins and minerals) in its meal plans. Healthy for Life just has low-glycemic foods in its meal plans. If you want only one copy, you just need to get one or the other, not both. HOWEVER, I wasn't bothered by having two copies of what amounted to the same book because I've learned so much about insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, killer (abdominal) fat, carb cravings, cellular nutrition, and the benefits of a low-glycemic diet that I wanted to recommend it to all my friends and relatives.
There are a lot of low-gycemic diet books out there now, but this is the only one I've seen that goes into such detail about the specific negative health effects that result from the way most Americans eat and how a change to a low-glycemic diet will counteract those health problems.

Healthy Sex Drive, Healthy You: What Your Libido Reveals About Your Life [Paperback]

Customer Review:
Questions of intimate nature always seem very difficult to ask, and particularly so if the one asking them is a woman. Just stop and think for a moment - how many people, including professionals, are you comfortable enough with to discuss your sexual desires or lack thereof with? If you are truly honest with your answer, it might seriously surprise you. Even if you feel comfortable enough with your doctor, chances are he or she is always just a tad too busy for you to bring those topics up. But the truth is that libido is a very complex thing, and understanding it, or the lack of it, deals with much more than the purely sexual side of your life.

Dr. Hoppe's book will bring an unprecedented clarity to any such questions a woman or her partner might have about their libido or decrease in it. Written in a very approachable, yet professional style, it deals with the subject in a holistic manner, addressing the factors influencing the matter as well as those being influenced by it. Obviously meticulously researched, supported by facts and figures as well as illustrated by real life examples, the book very methodically deals with anything related to female sex drive, starting from the basic "why and how" and progressing into much more complex relationships of libido with other facets of our lives. Dr. Hoppe managed to keep sounding approachable and easy to relate to, while remaining a consummate professional, armed with a vast knowledge on the subject. All too often books of this kind sound either condescending to the reader or are so overly technical that most of us would have to arm ourselves with a plethora of reference material to be able to understand just a portion of it. Dr. Hoppe's tone was neither, and that made the book truly unique.

While I certainly enjoyed all the facts, figures and medical explanations, particularly those related to the differences between male and female brains and consequently the differences in how men and women experience desire, I found the "Questions for Reflection" at the end of each chapter even more fascinating and decidedly enlightening. Answering them - honestly! - was not always easy or totally comfortable, but decidedly worthwhile; and I am convinced that any reader will learn a good few things about herself after doing so.

Whether you are experiencing changes in your libido due to your self-esteem, the stage of the life you are in, the stress or medications or a health condition, Dr. Hoppe's book will help you understand and address your concerns with comprehensible and relevant information as well as practical and useful suggestions. I would recommend "Healthy Sex Drive, Healthy You" to any and every woman, whether she's currently experiencing diminished libido or just wants to be informed about her body and its responses. Read it alone, and then share it with your partner - I am certain you'll end up understanding each other better.

The Savvy Woman Patient: How and Why Your Sex Matters to Your Health (Capital Savvy) [Paperback]

Customer Review:

Well to begin with, you sort of have to ask yourself why a man would be writing a review on a book devoted to women's health issues. The simple answer to that is that I have a wife, daughter, sister, mother (who passed away in the not so distant past), nieces, potential granddaughters and on top of that, probably more than half of my close friends are women. Needless to say, women make up a very important part (well over half) of my life. It is only prudent to know as much about something that is extremely important to me and you, and affects all of our lives in so many ways. That is why a guy is writing a review on this subject.

I must say that this work has been quite an eye opener. My wife, for many years, has observed that there seems to be almost a double standard in health care in this country which is based on many factors, but that gender is certainly one of the primary dividing points, along with social, racial, financial and culturally dividers. Now this problem seems to her (and me) to be increased if a combination of these factors are present, e.g. a lower income and lower educated black woman versus a higher income, higher educated white guy, as an example. It is an absolute proven fact that African American women share a gigantic disproportionate burden of health problems compared to other groups of women and this burden becomes even greater when compared to that of the care given to white males. But the thrust of this book and our primary interest in this case is not racial or economic, but rather women general, and women specifically. This is the area, on a personal level, that she, (and by association and projection and concern), I are most interested in at this time.

This single volume, The Savvy Woman Patient is an excellent primer; indeed, it went far beyond the primer stage, in answering many of my questions. As we all know, or as we all should know, women are different than men in many ways. Their physical and mental reaction as too many disease processes and conditions are quite different than men. So often this is completely overlooked, even by the most astute health care professional, both men and women, I fear. How a woman's body reacts to a disease process in many cases, is quite different than the reaction of a man's.

These differences we are talking about go even deeper than end results and begin in early adolescence. Facts such as that girls may quite likely develop symptoms of nicotine addiction faster than boys and can in fact become addicted to nicotine even before they become regular smokers is not a bit of information to take lightly. The same holds true with the speed and susceptibility to health disorders due to alcohol and is really a rather good thing to know. It is interesting and vital to note such information that although more men than women have hypertention at younger ages, women develop hypertension at a greater rate than men as they age; it is more common in women older than age 60 than in similarly aged men. Now what is odd here is the fact that women are far more likely than men to be aware that they have hypertension and to seek and receive treatment. Yet, surprisingly women are less likely to have their blood pressure adequately controlled! It is good to ask the question, Why?

It is also a proven fact that health care professionals are much more likely to pay less attention to the health complaints of women than they are men. Study after study has proven this beyond all possible doubt. Now granted, things are getting better in this area, but we yet have a long, long way to go. Information is nothing but pure power and empowerment. Conditions and attitudes simply will not change unless power is exerted in one form or another. This work gives women, and the men to care about them, a great deal of the power needed to create positive change.

In a very readable and understandable way, this work addresses issues such as Bone and Muscle Health, Cancer, Digestive Tract and Liver Disease, Eye Disease, Heart Diseases, Autoimmunity, Mental Health and Mental Illness, Oral Health, Painful Conditions, Pulmonary Diseases, Sexual Dissatisfactions, Sexual Health, Sleep Disorders, stroke and Urinary and Bladder Health. Each and every one of these conditions or concerns are different in women than in men and this is not always considered in their assessments, evaluations and treatment regimens. There is a wonderful section of this book that sheds much light on hormonal differences and how they affect the body along with related problems.

Now do not think that this is one of those books that some of our lesser enlighten fellow humans chalk off as "just another women's lib book." Oh my no! This work lays out cold hard, thoroughly researched facts. This works gives sound practical advice to women; information to well arm them in their encounters with physicians and other healthcare professional, who knowingly, or which is more often the case, unknowingly give short change when it comes to the diagnoses, treatment and follow up of women's health issues. This work is absolutely packed with the right questions, the right concerns and the right approaches for women dealing with our health care system. No complaining is found in this work; just pragmatic reality and how to react to this reality.

This is a very professionally done work and for its size, only 366 pages, packs a wealth of vital, practical and life saving information.

This work should be on the reading shelf of every woman and on the reading shelf of every man concerned about women.

Remember, women are different than men and it is about time our health delivery system became fully aware of that fact. A knowing, educated patient, asking the right questions and demanding the correct answers and care will bring us much closer to an equitable system and we will all benefit from this. I do highly recommend this work!

The Tao of Health, Sex, and Longevity: A Modern Practical Guide to the Ancient Way (Fireside Books (Fireside)) [Paperback]

Customer Review:
damn! this book is fantastic! i am 18 and stumbled across reid's 'complete book of chinsese health and healing' at barnes and noble a year ago. i then searched for 'the tao of health sex and longevity.' both books are a must for the depressed, sick, chronically sick and everyone else. i was deeply depressed before reading this book and used many illegal drugs to forget about it. but since reading his books, i have changed my diet, started the breathing exercises, practicing controlled fasting and taking tai chi lessons. i no longer use drugs and the world isn't a sad, gray place anymore, nor is my body an aching mess. this book is crammed with practical information much of which can start being practiced the very day you read it. you won't look at health care the same way ever again. also it is a greater intro to TAOISM. once you become accquainted with that word you will smile every time you read it or hear it. this is the best 12 bucks you will ever spend.

The Doctors 5-Minute Health Fixes: The Prescription for a Lifetime of Great Health [Hardcover]

Customer Review:
I love this book. There are a million health books out there, but if you want great advice from the experts, delivered in a light, easy to read tone, this is the one. And don't think easy-to-read means low on credibility. Everything's backed up with interesting studies and facts for those who want to delve deeper. You can buy this one and feel confident you're getting great advice that's easy to follow...and because it's oriented toward quick fixes, you can actually implement the advice and get on the road to feeling good...or great. I've only had my copy for a week and I have already referred to it three times.

Anal Pleasure and Health: A Guide for Men, Women and Couples [Paperback]

Customer Review :
I typically don't review books on sexual technique, eroticism, etc. However, I do review books on human sexuality and I do it from a unique perspective as one educated both in the hard sciences and psychology. I also have a deep interest in the mind-body connection and human sexuality as an integrating force. In my practice, I see a lot of the fallout from ignorance, acting out and shame, which is what has largely prompted me to write this review.

I initially encountered Jack Morin through his book The Erotic Mind: Unlocking the Inner Sources of Passion and Fulfillment. In my opinion, it is the hands down best book on understanding human sexual fantasy, how this operates in everyday life, etc. My second favorite that talk about evolutionary programming is The Evolution of Desire: Strategies of Human Mating. Armed with these two books you can get a deep and wide perspective on sexuality with a small investment of time. If I could, I would make them required reading for anyone with a sex drive!!

After reading THE EROTIC MIND, I looked for other books by Jack Morin and discovered this one. I was surprised he wrote a book on anal pleasure and health given his specialty in psychology. I didn't expect much when the book arrived, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that this is a well-researched, broad spectrum treatment of anal eroticsm in all it's aspects. It includes information on physiology, health risks, various practices, "how to" tips, etc.

It is obvious according to research that many heterosexual as well as gay couples explore this territory. It is also a fact that it can be quite pleasurable for many people, but yet there is still a lot of shame sorrounding it. I see this book as a big step forward in getting these discussions inquiries out into the public eye. Young people are going to experiment, long-term couples are going to try new things and some people are going to participate in anal eroticism as their main sexual event. Given this sexual landscape, this book can help people to stay safe, maximize their pleasure and understand the risks involved in this type of sexual play.

I know there are many books on this topic written from many angles, however, I haven't seen one as multi-dimensional and concise as this. There is no hype here, just a dense collection of practical no nonsense information. If you are curious about exploring this area with your partner or you have a partner that is reluctant to try it, you may want to read this book together.

I would like to mention that although the book is dense with content, it is easily readable by anyone. It is not difficult, too technical, too clinical or filled with assertions that are not supported by research or expert opinion.

I understand that there are some people who object to anal sex on moral grounds and I understand that. However, whether any group or individual thinks it's right or wrong, I don't think people should be hurt, put themselves needlessly in harms way, etc. Personally, I don't think there is anything wrong with anal sex.

In general, I think the intention behind any act is what largely makes it positive or negative. I have also found that no two things on the planet backfire more than guilt and sex in the sexual arena. I talk to many hurt people who have acted out or hurt others through the inappropriate expression of their sexuality because of these two emotional demons. That is not to say that I think anything goes, just that guilt and shame usually perpetuate that which they are trying to prevent. Two good books that I really like that talk more about this area are: Women, Sex, and Addiction: A Search for Love and Power, Private Lies: Infidelity and Betrayal of Intimacy and Don't Call It Love: Recovery From Sexual Addiction.

There is no reason that any play can't be safe and fun. This book will help you to understand how to do it and do it right. If you thought you could never have anal intercourse, this book will give you all the information you need to learn how quickly and safely.

The Seven Pillars of Health [Hardcover]

Customer Review :
While God most certainly played a role in my nearly 200-pound weight loss on the Atkins diet in 2004, you are not necessarily required to be a Christian in order for the diet (or ANY diet!) to work. I've been asked questions like "Do you have to be religious to do your diet?" by well-meaning members of the secular media when I bring up the role of my faith in my journey towards better health.

The short answer is "no," but it certainly helps to have the power of the Almighty Creator on your side for those times when you need His divine strength to carry you through the valleys that most certainly come when you try to lose weight. If you've ever gone through a weight loss experience without support, then you know exactly how hard it can be. You need a friend that sticks closer than a brother to be there for you when you need Him the most.

What if you could invest a mere 10-15 minutes a day for less than two months of you life and learn practical Biblical advice about improving your health? Would you be interested in learning more about it? If you are a Christian or desire to do something positive and productive about your weight and health, then of course you would.

That's precisely why prolific Christian author Dr. Don Colbert wrote his bestselling book entitled The Seven Pillars Of Health: The Natural Way To Better Health For Life. This 50-day all-inclusive health manual will empower you with tons of information that can be absorbed and immediately applied into your life to bring about big changes in a short period of time. This could be the miracle you have been praying for.

Dr. Colbert is well-known as the premier "health doctor" within Christian circles. I remember selling many of his other 30-something titles when I was working in Christian bookstores in the mid-to-late 1990s. He is highly-regarded for making complex medical conditions and treatments understandable to the common person as you will quickly find out when you read this book.

The Seven Pillars Of Health are as follows:

1. WATER
2. SLEEP AND REST
3. LIVING FOOD
4. EXERCISE
5. DETOXIFICATION
6. NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS
7. COPING WITH STRESS

This book reads like a daily devotional journal providing you with a few power-packed pages at a time to soak in the message Dr. Colbert wants to share with you. Each chapter (or "pillar") takes about a week to go through, so you are able to meditate and fully concentrate on one concept at a time. I enjoyed this format because the lessons you learned the first day were then reinforced on the next and the next to complement your health education. More books need to be written this way!

There's some real eye-opening content in this book that you are just gonna have to read to believe. If I didn't already drink upwards of 1-2 gallons of water a day already, then you bet your sweet bippy I'd be guzzling it like it was going out of style after reading the water chapter. I don't think people have any idea just how crucial fresh water is to their health. I'll drink to that!

At the end of each day's journal, you get a nice little wrap-up of the major points in that section with Dr. Colbert's "Building Blocks To A Healthy Life." Consider it your Cliff's Notes version of the content you just read and the take home message he doesn't want you to forget. There's the "Points To Ponder" as well as the practical application under the "Action Step" that allow you to begin using the in

Many of us healthcare providers who understand that diets don't work, and that healthy people come in a range of sizes, now have this terrific book to recommend to our patients. And for the healthcare providers who don't yet know the research about the possibility of health across the broad range of body sizes, the book can educate and guide them in how to provide supportive, collaborative, and weight-neutral healthcare.
